Enhancing the Appearance of Products

Our latest Special Effect Pigment, StarLight® FL170, was featured in the March edition of Compounding World. Author Jennifer Markarian reports on how special effect pigments are playing an important role in enhancing the appearance of plastic parts, some even replacing metal or other coated components.

Below is a short excerpt from the article entitled “Achieving the Right Effect”:

Shepherd Color has added to its StarLight line of silver coated glass flake pigments that uses the company’s MicroMirror technology, which provides brilliant sparkle and shine. The flatness of the glass f lake substrate maximises reflection, and the metallic silver coating is passivated to prevent tarnishing when exposed to water or weathering. The pigments are also very robust and survive high-intensity extrusion processing, the company reports.

The company’s proprietary manufacturing process yields durable, high-temperature and longterm light reflectivity, it says. The latest product, StarLight FL170, has a particle size that complements other Shepherd Color products, such as the sparkling undertone of FL37 and the dazzling speckle effect of FL500.
